La Casa di Graziella

Hours of Operation
Criii! If you climb up to Terra Murata, the highest and oldest heart of the island, you’ll find a place that smells of history and sea. On the second floor of the Palazzo della Cultura — built in the 1200s as the residence of Giovanni Da Procida, the feudal lord of the island and promoter of the Sicilian Vespers, later transformed into a Conservatory for Orphan Girls — something special is waiting for you.
Kraak! Since June 10, 2011, you can step inside the House of Graziella, a faithful reconstruction of a traditional Procida home. Here, you can feel the simple and authentic life of the past, carried by wind, salt, and the rhythm of the sea. Did you know Graziella is the heroine of a novel by Alphonse de Lamartine?
Squa-squa! On the 200th anniversary of Graziella’s death, the Cultural Association “La Casa di Graziella” created this House-Museum in her honor. Every object you see — furniture, fabrics, tools — dates back to the 1800s and 1900s. None of them belonged to her… except for her portrait, quietly watching like a breeze from another time.
Criii! This is more than just a house: it’s a way to preserve and pass on the history of Procida, so it won’t drift away like sand in the wind. Everything flows through the myth of Graziella, a young woman who lived and died for love, just like waves that never stop returning to shore.
Kraak! And since 2019, you can go even higher, up to the Panoramic Terrace, the highest point of the island. Here you’ll find “The Places of Elsa Morante”, where you can admire the views that inspired the writer’s novel “Arturo’s Island”, winner of the Strega Prize in 1957. Have you ever seen Procida from up here? The wind will tell you its story.
Arturo is just a seagull, so take what he says with a grain of salt and always double-check the facts.
