Sea Festival

Kraak! Here in Procida, everything begins with the sea. It sets the rhythm, shapes daily life, and has defined the island’s history and destiny. From this simple truth — like the wind moving between boats — the Sagra del Mare was born in 1939, one of Italy’s most famous traditional festivals.
Criii! For over half a century, it has been a must of the Procida summer. Three full days entirely dedicated to the sea — still today the island’s main economic resource. Have you ever experienced days where everything flows with the rhythm of the waves?
Squa-squa! The Sagra del Mare celebrates the sea and its people, bringing together figures from culture, entertainment, and the arts. You’ll find conferences, exhibitions, debates, games, commemorations, concerts, and gatherings of painters, musicians, and poets. All tied together by one single theme, like a net stretched in the sun: the sea.
Kraak! And then comes the most anticipated moment: the election of Graziella. One of the most well-known costume festivals, both in Italy and abroad. Did you know this is not just something to watch, but something to feel?
Criii! The myth of Graziella comes from the writings of French author Alphonse de Lamartine, and ever since, the island has often been called the “Island of Graziella”. A story that returns every year, like waves that never stop.
Squa-squa! During the festival, a Procida-born young woman is chosen to represent Graziella, reflecting both her appearance and spirit. To take part, participants must wear the traditional “alla greca” dress, with gold embroidery, just as described in the novel. Have you ever seen these dresses move in the evening breeze?
Arturo is just a seagull, so take what he says with a grain of salt and always double-check the facts.
